Summit is seeking a Technology Transfer Commercialization Engineer in a remote capacity for the NASA Technology Transfer (T2) program on the CATTS contract.
NASA’s Technology Transfer (T2) program is tasked with ensuring that commercially valuable innovations developed at the agency are identified, protected, and licensed to U.S. companies. This position will support due diligence of new inventions developed at NASA to determine commercial potential, inform patent decisioning, and outline licensing strategies. Findings will be documented in professional reports and delivered to NASA. Additionally, the position entails developing technology marketing materials, identifying potential licensees, and marketing NASA patented technologies to industries to generate licensing interest.
A successful Technology Transfer Commercialization Engineer will have a skillset at the intersection of technology (preferably a background with formal engineering or science training + ability to become a “generalist’ – analyzing technologies outside of formal training) and business (including primary and secondary market research). Technical writing skills are required. A basic understanding of the US patent system and patent licensing is strongly preferred. Candidates with work experience in Technology Transfer, Technology Scouting, Innovation Management, or early-stage technology commercialization are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Performs technology analysis and market research (primary and secondary) to determine commercial potential of new inventions disclosed at NASA.
- Develops licensing strategies for NASA inventions with commercial promise (e.g., identifies key value propositions and potential licensees, develops compelling pitches to industry, etc.).
- Uses clear thinking and writing skills to generate deliverables (reports) detailing findings for delivery to NASA. Reports include sections such as technology background, technology description, SWOT analysis, intellectual property status, market analysis, licensing landscape, and inventor interview summaries.
- Leverages strong communication skills to develop and maintain rapport with various client stakeholders (Ph.D.-level inventors, NASA technology transfer personnel, decision makers in industry, etc.). Candidates must be comfortable interacting with such stakeholders on a regular basis.
- Markets patented NASA technologies to industry to generate licensing interest (identifies potential licensees, performs direct marketing to decision makers in industry, delivers initial technology pitches to companies interested in licensing NASA patented technologies).
- Drafts compelling marketing flyers for NASA patented inventions to be hosted on NASA’s Technology Transfer website.
- Analyzes NASA patents with upcoming maintenance fees (e.g., licensing history, licensing potential, competing technologies, etc.); generates reports providing recommendations on whether to pay upcoming maintenance fees.
- Develop and maintain a basic understanding of the US patent system (e.g., should understand provisional and nonprovisional patent applications, statutory bars, public disclosures, maintenance fees); understand commercialization / licensing implications of intellectual property status.

Project Control Specialist
Summit is seeking a Project Control Specialist with Microsoft Power BI skills at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. This requirement provides project coordination and integration support for the Human Exploration Development and Operations (HEDO) Office Payload and Mission Operations Division (PMOD) management team. For this requirement, the Contractor shall provide independent technical support to perform the requirements in Section 4.1, General Project Coordination Support. This support includes organization-wide project coordination and integration, meeting support, reporting, research of PMOD processes, tracking and reporting risk utilizing the risk database, managing records and documentation, recording, and tracking actions, recording technical meeting minutes, and other functions necessary for the successful operation and evaluation of the organization and prime contracts. Support is also required as a floor manager with the following tasking: assisting in the monthly general walk-through of the halls and common areas; serving as a liaison between the assigned floor occupants and submittal of trouble calls/work orders related to that floor; inspecting Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and fire extinguishers (date and initial tags); checking emergency lights; preparing a completed check list for the building manager; and attending quarterly Building Manager Meetings via Teams.

The Contractor shall work independently to perform analysis of program/ project data, including current contractor performance metrics. The Contractor shall also assist with the development and integration of new metrics that will correlate performance and quality of services being provided. Support shall include reporting and tracking statistical trends that will demonstrate the likelihood of past performance to future outcomes. Space Systems and Operations branch is looking to revamp their current metric and monitoring process and this effort should lead to the identification and development of meaningful key performance indicators. The Contractor shall support data management, archival and business operations functions for the HOSC, PMOD front office and planning and analysis logistics work.
The Contractor shall interact with executive- level PMOD management and personnel, HEDO Office senior personnel, International Space Station (ISS) Program personnel at Johnson Space Center, Space Launch System personnel at Marshall Space Flight Center and other NASA Centers, Advanced Exploration Systems personnel at MSFC and NASA Headquarters (HQ)s, Payload Developers located in the United States and various international countries, Prime Contractors delivering Huntsville Operations Support Center (HOSC) services and Flight Operations support services, numerous small science/mission payload developers, and other Centers, including Component Facilities and Technical and Service Support Centers.

DevOps Engineer
Summit is seeking a senior DevOps Engineer to join the Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) Ground Sustainment Services (LGSS) program to sustain and enhance the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Common Ground System (CGS). The JPSS CGS is responsible for implementing JPSS Program command, control, and communications and data processing requirements for JPSS CGS-serviced missions. Responsibilities:

Energy Management Engineer
Summit is seeking an Energy Management Engineer in Hampton, VA. The Energy Management Engineer will be challenged by work that is essential to NASA’s goal of achieving yearly reductions in energy use and the related cost savings, collaborating in a Team Environment under the guidance of NASA Langley’s Energy Manager.
Activities shall include, but not be limited to, the following: •Participating in data calls, meetings, and conference calls at NASA Langley and NASA Headquarters, including oral and written communication (i.e. presentations, whitepapers, etc.) •Performing economic analysis of energy efficiency measures including measuring and verifying Energy Conservation Measure performance, and HVAC system tuning and optimization •Making recommendations of appropriate energy saving measures including lighting, motors, drives, HVAC systems, and industrial process improvements to the NASA Energy Manager •Conducting audits to identify energy reduction opportunities in lighting, HVAC, building envelope, water, renewables, controls, and other energy and water using systems •Performing reviews for design projects, including drawings, specifications, scopes of work, cost estimates, and requests for proposals (RFP’s), to include planning activities associated with project development in order to verify compliance to NASA standards •Preparing comprehensive reports with detailed analytical findings

Mechanical Technician
Summit is seeking a Mechanical Technician in Hampton, VA.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will join a team to operate and maintain mechanical systems/equipment in support of wind tunnels at NASA LaRC safely, effectively, and efficiently. Shall follow safety policies and procedures and perform all work according to existing policies and procedures while maintaining a high standard of quality and workmanship in performing the duties. Working knowledge of safety practices common to industry including FOD control and LOTO (OSHA Lockout/Tagout program) is an added advantage. The successful candidate will be trained in OSHA LOTO responsibilities and become qualified as a LOTO authorized person. Experience in operating and maintaining rotating machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic system, pumps, valves and cooling water systems is desirable. Other equipment operated on includes but is not limited to, industrial forklifts, man-lifts and cranes. Sr. Electrical Maintenance and Reliability Engineer
Summit is seeking a Sr. Electrical Maintenance and Reliability Engineer in Hampton, VA. While the majority of work is directly in support of LaRC, other industry partners and Government agencies may be supported at remote sites as directed by the Contracting Officer (CO). The Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE) contract comprises of three major categories of work – operations, maintenance, and engineering (OME).
The Electrical Maintenance and Reliability Engineer is expected have a working knowledge of electrical systems maintenance practices and poses problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
